Marking the Milestones of Inclusion and Success

Special Olympics Bharat has a long and rewarding experience of conducting such meaningful events which not only encourages athletes with intellectual disabilities but also extends for the outlook of inclusion, teamwork and excellence. Here are some of the distinctive past events.

National Championship 2023

Date: December 2023

Location: New Delhi

Details: Special Olympics Bharat conducting the National Championship twenty twenty three, in which more than one thousand athletes from across the country gathered. The participants exhibited their talent in sports like – athletics, basketball and Bocce in addition to working towards oneness and inclusiveness. Crying for a cause, the occasion seeped in sporting spirit with awards being conferred to the players and coaches for their commitment and hard work.

Unified Sports Day 2022

Date: july 2023

Location: Bengaluru

Details: Unified Sports Day 2022 aimed at promoting inclusion by integrating athletes with and without intellectual disabilities as teammates. The day featured multiple events of football, badminton, cycling and so on in an atmosphere where everyone was treated equally and respectfully underlining sports as a means of bringing people together.

Leadership Academy 2021

Date: November 2021

Location: Hyderabad

Details: The aim of this event was to develop advocacy and leadership skills among the athletes and youth leaders so as to inspire them to become agents of change. Youth athletes with intellectual disabilities were trained in public speaking, teamwork, and activism and inclusion strategies in their specific locales.

Healthy Athletes Program 2020

Date: September 2020

Location: Online (Virtual Event)

Details: Due to the pandemic, Special Olympics Bharat organized a Healthy Athletes Program, through virtual communication, focusing on imparting knowledge to athletes about hygiene fitness and mental health. The program took care of the fact that the athletes would be isolated from each other and would not give up, offering health experts who alleviated the physical and emotional health concerns of the athletes.

Regional Athletics Meet 2019

Date: March 2019

Location: Kolkata

Details: The 2019 Regional Athletics Meet It was held by Special Olympics Bharat which saw athletes from different states come together and compete in various track and field disciplines. The goal of the event was to encourage confidence and oneness among the athletes, and also encourage their families to take part in the inclusion movement. Awards were offered because of the recognition of effort and not only the achievement.
