About Special Olympics Bharat

As the apex body of the Global Special Olympics Bharat Program, Special Olympics Bharat International makes sure that all the General Rules, which are the dos and don’ts that govern our movement, are properly observed and complied with.

The centre of our commitment towards good governance is our Board of directors. It consists of seven Directors, elected by the Heads of the Special Olympics Bharat Accredited Programs, with one Director playing the role for each of the seven global regions. As part of our new Board structure for the organization, we have also created One Lead Director position. The Lead Director, elected by the Board, is an independent director who does not serve as the active Chief Executive Officer or a paid Chair of the Board while a Director, has specific duties, including presiding over Board meetings and management of the substantive activities of the Board concerning in particular, the appropriate management of potential or actual conflicts of interest. The post of Lead Director falls under Stephen Carter, moreso, such a designation presides over the Executive and Compensation Committee.

The Special Olympics Bharat International Organization values effectiveness in operations and openness in reporting. We contact our existing and potential beneficiaries via email, regular post and telephone on a regular basis. We inform them about our ongoing sporting and health activities as well as volunteer and Unified events at international and national levels. Our outreach campaigns are focused on changing perceptions about people who have intellectual disabilities and improving their lives using sport. In order to comply with the guidelines developed by the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) and the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), we treat part of the costs incurred in soliciting donations under the program services so that any donations made by donors are wisely utilized. Being a tax-exempt not for profit entity, we put in great effort in making sure that every dollar we receive will be put to use in furthering our objectives.
