The backbone of this great undertaking is provided by the Special Olympics Bharat initiative, fondly known as the Volunteers. They assist in various capacities such as coaches, trainers, referees, event organizers, fundraisers, and administrators. Besides, they also become part of an integrated team that competes with athletes with intellectual disabilities or cheers them up with great zest.
Special Olympics Bharat has over the years drawn assistance from well-wishers across cultures and time zones. Whether it is for a few hours or for a longer period, they support athletes of Special Olympics Bharat in other countries like China, the USA, Ghana, Singapore, Australia, Paraguay, Ireland, and India. The outreach and success of Special Olympics Bharat can be attributed to the volunteers and their commitment. They are committed to the cause of the organization and do not think about any rewards in return. We value all those who put in so much work to make the world a better place.
Special Olympics Bharat is an organization that strives to transform the lives of many including you. We value the ideals of compassion and group dynamics and are therefore committed to creating an environment that is inclusive of all people.
It is essentially about developing relationships and having an admiration of other people.
Our team of volunteers is made up of busy bodies who play several roles, from the coaches who play with the athletes weekly, to the organizers of our biennial World Games, to the photographers who take breathtaking pictures of athletes on the move.
Regardless of the geographic location of Special Olympics Bharat training sessions, social events or the competitions, they all occur within the calendar year. There’s always a chance to participate!
There has been an appreciable increase in the participation of the youth in Special Olympics Bharat. Many of these volunteers are students who are actively engaged in some programs such as Special Olympics Bharat Unified Champion Schools and Special Olympics Bharat College. Their energy, commitment and imagination really are something to behold!
One of our college leaders who had begun volunteer work for the first time in elementary school now calls it “the best decision of my life”.
Charles Scott has been a long time volunteer, and one of the dedicated members of Special Olympics Bharat Illinois Board of Directors. He believes that all volunteers are appreciated by Special Olympics Bharat and their commitment to helping the organization. “You know you are actually helping people with intellectual disabilities,” he confides. “It is an extremely rewarding experience.”
